Union Executive Board discusses and approves a quarterly plan and assesses its meetings
The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union’s Executive Board met yesterday evening, Friday, under President Ahmed Salem Sidi Abdallah, with most of its members present.
The meeting agenda included several items, among them:
- Discussion of a quarterly work plan for the Board’s first three months in office.
- Assessment of the meetings held in recent days and preparation of an approach for future meetings.
- Developing arrangements for duty cover at the new central headquarters.
After extensive discussion of the agenda, the Board approved the quarterly plan for its first three months of work. It also formed a committee to assess previous meetings, particularly those with the Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, El Houssein Ould Medou; the President of the High Authority for the Press and Audiovisual Media (HAPA), Mohamed Abdallah Lahbib; and the President of the Advertising Regulatory Authority, Dieng Amadou Boubou Farba.
The committee was also tasked with preparing a clear approach for upcoming meetings and reviewing the petition of demands in that light, with the proposal to be presented at the Board’s meeting next week.
Board members addressed various aspects of the work and the state of journalism. They urged faster action to serve journalists, restore the profession’s distinguished image and noble purpose, and rid it of practices that have tarnished it.
They also called for the Union to become the foremost and sole representative interlocutor for the press in Mauritania, as it brings together most journalists and includes many specialised journalism organisations.
Board members agreed on the need for prompt, dedicated work to deliver tangible achievements for journalists as soon as possible, respect meeting times and use them productively.
