About us

The first union bringing together journalists from the public and private sectors, representing all journalists working in the public sector (news agency, radio and television) and the private sector (newspapers and daily publications, correspondents of foreign media organisations, websites and Mauritanian journalists living abroad).

Objectives: 

- Develop the journalism profession.

- Defend journalists and ensure that they receive the material and moral rights guaranteed by law.

- Strengthen journalists’ abilities and develop their talents through training and improved expertise.

- Improve and organise the journalism sector and protect it from disorderly practices.

- Work with partners to establish professional, free and responsible media.

- Help strengthen the space for freedom and consolidate democratic values.

- Enable citizens to access accurate information and guarantee their right to be informed.

Organisational structure:

- General Assembly: comprises all journalists who have joined the Union. 

- Union Council: consists of 79 members representing the different components of the press.

- Executive Board: comprises 17 members representing all categories of the press.
