On Friday 01 May 2026, the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union submitted its petition of demands to Ms Mariem Mint Beijel, Minister of Public Service and Labour, on the occasion of Labour Day, celebrated on the first of May.
This step forms part of the Union’s efforts to present journalists’ professional demands, strengthen their social and professional situation, and promote a better working environment in the media sector.
The Union said that this petition expresses the aspirations of Mauritanian journalists and provides a basis for dialogue with the relevant parties, helping develop the profession and safeguard its members’ rights.
