Executive Board sets dates for the fifth ordinary general congress

The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union issued a statement to its members setting the dates of its fifth ordinary general congress, as follows:

Statement

As preparations resume for the fifth ordinary general congress of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union, the Executive Board wishes to explain to the public and the national journalistic community that the congress’s postponement was not at the Board’s discretion. It resulted from a lawsuit brought against the Union, which led to a judicial ruling suspending all preparatory procedures, despite those preparations having reached an advanced stage.

Following the withdrawal of the lawsuit and the removal of all legal impediments that prevented the congress from taking place on its previous date, the Executive Board held a meeting to assess the situation and take the necessary decisions to resume its organisation. It decided to schedule the fifth ordinary general congress of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union for 15, 16 and 17 May 2026.

The Executive Board affirms its full commitment to continuing preparations and renews its pledge to organise a congress marked by transparency and integrity. It should be an inclusive professional milestone that strengthens the journalistic community’s unity and upholds the values and objectives on which the Union was founded in serving the profession and defending its members.

The Executive Board also calls on all Union members and affiliates to demonstrate professional responsibility and contribute actively to the success of this important union event, in a manner befitting the standing of the Mauritanian press and its role in serving society.

May Allah grant us success.

The Executive Board
