
The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union held a ceremony this Thursday evening at its central headquarters in El Ksar. The “Helping Hands” event aims to assist families of journalists who have departed this world. The Union launched a donation campaign at the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan. According to the Union’s finance officer, donations reached two million ouguiyas from 112 donors and will benefit 36 families.
In his remarks, the President of the High Authority for the Press and Audiovisual Media, Dr El Houssein Ould Medou, said that President of the Republic Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani had instructed that 10 million old ouguiyas be paid to support the initiative and the families of deceased journalists.
The ceremony was attended by heads of public media organisations and several people interested in the media sector.
