Journalists’ Union President receives China’s Ambassador to Mauritania

The President of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union, Mr Ahmed Taleb Ould Maâloum, received Mr Li Baijin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritania, in his office in Nouakchott on Thursday morning.

The meeting discussed existing areas of cooperation between Mauritania and China, particularly the media, its role in deepening relations between the two friendly peoples, and ways to develop that cooperation.

Ould Maâloum affirmed the Executive Board’s readiness to cooperate with the Chinese embassy

to develop relations between the two countries in various fields, especially the media.

 The Chinese Ambassador stressed the depth and strength of Mauritanian–Chinese relations, founded on mutual respect, and his country’s determination to develop and strengthen them at every level.

Li Baijin reviewed the history of relations between his country and Mauritania, recalling areas of cooperation such as the construction of numerous facilities in health, education, agriculture, veterinary services, culture, sport and other vital infrastructure...

He added that China’s early support for Mauritania in combating the coronavirus, including supplying millions of vaccines, disinfection materials, masks, face coverings and ventilators, provides the clearest evidence of this.  

The Ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with the Union in several areas, such as training and enhancing expertise through journalists’ field visits to benefit from China’s media experience.

He called on the Union to fulfil its role in developing Mauritanian–Chinese cooperation for the benefit of the two friendly peoples.

The meeting was attended by several Executive Board members and the President of the Electronic Websites Union.
