We at the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union have, for nearly two weeks, organised a donation campaign through a WhatsApp group for journalists and members of the media sector, aimed at supporting families of deceased journalists,
which culminated last Thursday evening at the Union’s headquarters in Nouakchott with a ceremony announcing the campaign’s goals and results. Significant sums were collected and benefited dozens of families of deceased journalists. The ceremony also included a seminar in which religious jurists discussed the virtues of solidarity and compassion and the importance of generosity during this blessed month ...
In this context, we extend our sincere thanks and deep gratitude to the Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports and Relations with Parliament, Khtar Ould Cheibani, and his respected team, for their positive response and the considerable attention and care they gave this charitable work. By attending and donating, they stood with us alongside the orphans and widows of deceased journalists, in an unprecedented response by the department to journalistic concerns and an exemplary demonstration of its closeness to media issues and difficulties...
The Executive Board also praises the material and moral support of the High Authority for the Press and Audiovisual Media, its solidarity with every journalistic concern, and the substantial support of public media organisations.
The Union expresses its appreciation and sincere thanks to all bodies, organisations, journalistic figures and senior professionals who contributed during this blessed month to remembering colleagues who have departed this mortal world and supporting their families, orphans and widows.
Foremost among them are former minister and Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Workers’ Union, El Koury Ould Abdel Moula, and our country’s Ambassador to UNESCO, Cheikhna Ould Nenni.
Our thanks also go to the many journalists who answered the call and set a wonderful example of generosity, and to journalism organisations partnering with the Union in its fieldwork, such as Radio Mauritania’s regional office in Hodh Ech Chargui
and the Mauritanian Women Journalists’ Network and the Professional Union of Independent Newspapers in Mauritania.
We also praise the exemplary sacrifice of the Union’s bodies, represented by its Union Council and Executive Board, all of whose members gave a remarkable lesson in generosity that truly underpinned the campaign’s success. With Allah’s help, it will remain a good tradition that our colleagues on the previous Executive Board deserve credit for establishing. We hope, with Allah’s permission, to be rewarded for following and improving it ...
May Allah guide us all towards what He loves and approves, and make all our deeds sincerely devoted to Him.
“Say: do your work, for Allah will see your deeds, as will His Messenger and the believers.” Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
