Notice opening applications to join the Journalists’ Union

In accordance with the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union’s statutes, particularly the second chapter concerning its bodies, the Union announces that applications for affiliation and membership are open to interested journalists from 31 January until 18 March 2022. The following 15 days will be reserved for receiving appeals.
Those interested must address a written application to the Union President, expressing both their wish to join and their full commitment to comply with the Union’s laws, rules and decisions.
Applicants for affiliation or membership must meet the following conditions:
1- Be a Mauritanian national or a resident foreign national working in Mauritania.
2- Be at least 18 years old.
3- Provide a certified true copy of a journalism diploma, university qualification or certificate of professional experience, or have intermediate-level training with at least 5 years’ experience in a public or private print, visual or audio media organisation meeting institutional criteria.
4- Provide a true copy of an employment certificate from the press organisation where the applicant works or previously worked. This may be replaced by a true copy of the appointment decision from the government body where the journalist works.
5- Provide a copy of the national identity card.
6- Complete the membership form and pay the fees: 200 new ouguiyas for affiliation and 500 new ouguiyas for membership. 
7- Not be subject to a legal provision prohibiting membership.
8- Submit 4 passport photographs.
9- Practise journalism as a primary and regular profession that constitutes the main source of income, whether in a publication, agency, radio station, audiovisual channel or any other media organisation operating in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. This also applies to Mauritanians working in foreign media and comparable contributors in the news sector, including editors, directors and photographers.
10- Not have been convicted of an offence involving dishonour or dishonesty, unless legally rehabilitated.
11- Practise journalistic work in a regularly published newspaper, a news agency, news editing at a radio or television station, or an online news publication meeting institutional criteria.
12- Submit ten copies of published journalistic work in different genres.
13- Provide a copy of the accreditation letter for correspondents of foreign media.
Applications are received at the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union headquarters on the Regulatory Authority road, near the Presidential Guard battalion, on official working days from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon, and on Friday from nine in the morning until noon.
