The Journalists’ Union welcomes journalists at the inauguration of its new headquarters

The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union held a reception in Nouakchott on Thursday evening in honour of several journalists and representatives of press organisations, marking the inauguration of its new headquarters in the Ilot C neighbourhood of Tevragh Zeina.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the Union’s work, its future prospects, and the methods and mechanisms needed to develop and professionalise the sector.

In his address, Union President Ahmed Taleb Ould Maâloum welcomed the gathering and affirmed the Executive Bureau’s commitment to organising such activities to consult and engage with all journalists, hear their views and record their aspirations for reforming the sector.

Ould Maâloum also welcomed the government’s allocation of a 2000-square-metre plot for a Press House. He noted that this project had long been a fundamental demand of all journalists and that its achievement was a genuine gain that would help advance journalistic work.

He added that this decision had resonated with all journalists, particularly as it formed part of the broad outline of the new Executive Bureau’s programme.

The Union President explained that he had written to the government, through the Ministry of Culture, asking it to renew efforts to examine all developments concerning their colleague Ishaq Ould El Mokhtar. He stressed that this matter was a priority and an issue of principle for the new Bureau.
