Colleague Mohamed Mahmoud Hamdinou, a member of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union, was subjected to severe humiliation by National Gendarmerie Colonel Kamara Wagué. This occurred in front of his young children on the road between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou while he was returning from a family trip.
Regarding this behaviour, which is not
lawful, in which the respect due to military uniform was exploited, giving a negative impression of a service known for its discipline and good treatment of everyone,
the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union states the following:
Its full solidarity with colleague Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Hamdinou.
Its profound surprise and strong condemnation of this abnormal and dangerous conduct, which damages the image of the service to which the colonel belongs and, more broadly, that of the country as a whole.
The Union calls on the respected General Command of the National Gendarmerie to provide redress to colleague Mohamed Mahmoud Hamdinou and apologise for the serious psychological harm he suffered as a result of this abnormal act, which is alien to the conduct expected of National Gendarmerie personnel.
The Union affirms its determination to exercise all its rights to defend its members, morally and materially, before national judicial authorities and other bodies.
