The first Maghreb Journalists’ Union, chaired by our country, launches its activities

The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union headquarters hosted a press conference in Nouakchott this Tuesday to mark the establishment of the first Maghreb Journalists’ Union.

In his address, Mr Mohamed Salem Ould Dah, President of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union, explained that the new union arose from an initiative submitted by the Union and several media professionals in Mauritania, which was welcomed by stakeholders across the Maghreb media landscape. He expressed the Journalists’ Union’s full support for this important step and welcomed the confidence placed in Mauritania to chair the union during its founding term.

The statement issued by the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union and read by its President welcomed the birth of this union, whose members include a number of women and men active in the Maghreb media sector.

The statement added that the Union extended its congratulations to all founding members of the Maghreb Journalists’ Union for choosing Mauritania to host its first general congress. It also welcomed the Founding Council colleagues’ selection of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union President to chair the new union’s Founding Bureau.

The Union affirmed its full readiness to cooperate with the new union as an independent regional professional body working to develop journalism in our Maghreb region.

The Union’s press conference took place in the presence of several Executive Bureau members and a gathering of media professionals.
