Founding Bureau of the Maghreb Journalists’ Union announced under the chairmanship of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union President (founding statement)

To realise the great aspirations pursued by the Maghreb Union,
we, women and men working as journalists in Maghreb countries across print, electronic, television and radio media, announce the launch of the first Maghreb Journalists’ Union.
We announce it today on the anniversary of the establishment of the Arab Maghreb Union, which we still believe has no alternative in achieving the ambitions of the Maghreb people.
The union will provide a professional framework, based on consultation and open, constructive dialogue, to identify journalists’ concerns in our Maghreb region, improve their working conditions, advance journalism and make it an effective instrument serving the shared, decisive causes to which our region’s peoples aspire, in an atmosphere of constructive and productive dialogue that upholds freedom, justice and democracy.
The Maghreb Journalists’ Union seeks to fulfil journalists’ aspirations in Maghreb countries, strengthen their ties and help enhance their professional and organisational capacities.

Mauritania will host the union’s first congress.
The union’s Founding Council, comprising more than one hundred women and men working as journalists, has selected the following Founding Bureau:

Mohamed Salem Ould Dah: Chair of the Bureau, President of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union.
Members:
Faouzia Ghiloufi: member of the Executive Bureau of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists.
Nasr Faouzi El Mahdaoui: Secretary-General of the Union of Libyan Journalists and Media Professionals.
Anas Mourid: Secretary-General of the Moroccan Journalists’ Union.
Riad Boukhedcha: President of the National Council of Algerian Journalists.
