Statement:
The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union was surprised by the exclusion of private press from public support during the exceptional period in which our country faced the Covid 19 pandemic.
The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union states the following:
It expresses its surprise at and rejection of private press exclusion from media support under the special pandemic response fund.
The Union welcomes the support given to public media organisations.
It calls on those responsible for managing the fund to reconsider this exclusion and recognise the pivotal role of private media organisations, as is the case in all vital sectors in democratic countries and those moving towards development.
The Union commends the leading role played by colleagues in the public and private sectors during this exceptional period in which our country faced the coronavirus pandemic, and calls for mobilisation and awareness-raising against the pandemic to continue.
