
The Journalists’ Union has called on the owners of the private Sahel TV channel to pay the journalists working there their dues.
In a statement, the Union strongly condemned the exploitation of colleagues throughout this period without pay.

Statement:
Colleagues at Sahel TV began an open-ended strike a few days ago after six months without salaries..
The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union declares:
It strongly condemns colleagues’ exploitation throughout this period without pay.
The Union calls on the organisation’s owners to intervene immediately to resolve this issue and pay colleagues their dues as soon as possible.
It calls on the country’s highest authorities to require investors in private media organisations to fulfil the conditions of their specifications and commitments.
The Union calls on the government to provide resources to support private media, including by accelerating the work of the advertising body, given its importance in enabling the media to fulfil their role and encouraging stakeholders to honour their commitments.
The Union President visited the channel yesterday evening, meeting its general management and representatives of the strikers and hearing about the conditions they face at one of the country’s leading private channels.
