The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union welcomed Al Mouritaniya’s permanent appointment of 30 journalists who passed the internal and external recruitment competitions organised by the channel in previous years.
In a statement, the Union said that “this step is a tremendous effort in the right direction” and congratulated those concerned and the organisation on the decision.
It added that the permanent appointment of this group “confirms the emergence of a new climate seeking to provide fair treatment for everyone wronged within public media organisations”, and expressed hope for another decision that would do justice to all the organisation’s contributing staff.
The Union called on the directors of other public media organisations to grant permanent appointments to all contributing staff and end the injustices they face. It also
called on the country’s highest authorities to take a fair decision at the start of the new year to end the injustices faced by contributing staff in official media organisations, whose suffering has gone on for too long, in its words.
