The digital safety course organised by the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union and the International Federation of Journalists concluded this Tuesday evening at the Union headquarters in Nouakchott.
The course focused on providing journalists with the expertise and tools needed to secure their information and protect it from intrusion, eavesdropping, hacking and data destruction.
Speaking on the occasion, the President of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union, Mr Mohamed Salem Ould Dah, said that 20 participants had received two days of training.
He explained that a shift in media practices was marking the transition from traditional approaches to platform-based media, or new media.
He stressed that journalists now had some expertise in this field, which needed strengthening through access to new information and training in these new digital developments.
The trainer, Mr Ahmedou Ould Beddah, said that the course formed part of the International Federation of Journalists’ wider focus on journalists’ safety. The Federation began this programme some time ago, and it has evolved to include digital safety: protecting journalists from risks arising through the digital platforms they use to work and perform their duties.
Certificates were presented to the participants at the end of the two-day course.
