Journalists’ Union President Mohamed Salem Ould Dah urgently appealed to businessman and President of the Mauritanian Employers’ Union Zeine El Abidine Ould Cheikh Ahmed to withdraw his complaint against journalist El Hacen Ould Abatt.
In his appeal, the Union President said: “We are confident that he will respond favourably to this request, given the good character and positive engagement with everyone that we know of him. We have begun efforts to achieve this wish.”
He added that Ould Abatt had left El Ksar police station No. 1 for pretrial detention ahead of his transfer to prison.
Yesterday, Thursday, a court sentenced Ould Abatt to one year of immediate imprisonment following a complaint filed by businessman Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
