Mauritanian Journalists’ Union President Mohamed Salem Ould Dah presented the Union’s vision for reforming the sector during a meeting with the chair of the press reform commission, former Mauritanian minister and diplomat Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Wedadi.
According to a Union press briefing, institutional reform, strengthening freedoms and protecting journalists’ rights in public and private media organisations featured prominently in the meeting. The rights of contributing staff, establishing a training centre and professionalising the press sector were also discussed.
The Union handed the newly formed press reform commission two documents: one containing its proposals for press reform and the other its petition of demands.
