After deliberating on the matter involving colleague Lebatt Ould Lemdeih, a Union Executive Bureau member, and the Director-General of Al Mouritaniya,
the Executive Bureau adopted the following statement by majority vote.
Statement
Today, the Director-General of Al Mouritaniya removed colleague Lebatt Emdeih, a member of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union Executive Bureau, from his position as adviser to the Director-General. This followed a personal post expressing his opinion and a discussion between them about his view of the organisation’s editorial line, during a general meeting at Al Mouritaniya today.
The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union declares:
It strongly condemns the removal of its Executive Bureau member after he expressed his opinion and considers this an unacceptable interference in his personal freedom.
The Union affirms that it previously opposed similar decisions issued by earlier management teams and will oppose any such decisions issued by future management.
The Union expresses its full solidarity with colleague Lebatt Ould Emdeih and calls on the general management to reconsider its arbitrary and unjust decision.
