Maghreb — News Window: Mauritanian Journalists’ Union warns against rumours

The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union called on all journalists in Mauritania this Monday to avoid spreading rumours and unconfirmed news about the novel coronavirus.

In a statement published by the Sahara Media website, the Union said that “rumours” should not be spread on social media and in newspapers, given the challenges facing the world.

It also called for exclusive reliance on the Ministry of Health and information officially published by the country’s authorities on this subject.

It urged support for public awareness and media support for the state in overcoming this ordeal, while praying to the Most High and Almighty to lift it from humanity and protect the country from its dangers.

The Mauritanian President Mohamed El Ghazouani had addressed the people and asked them to remain vigilant. Mauritania had taken numerous precautionary measures, including suspending international flights.
