
Al Akhbar (Nouakchott)—The President of the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union, Mohamed Salem Ould Dah, called for journalists to be exempted from curfew “because of the nature of their work”.
In a press statement distributed to the media, Ould Dah said the Union welcomed “the measures issued by the Ministry of the Interior as part of the national effort to confront coronavirus”.
He also described these measures as “part of caring for citizens and preserving their safety”.
The Ministry of the Interior announced new measures in the campaign against the coronavirus epidemic, including a curfew from eight in the evening until six in the morning.
Mauritania recorded its second coronavirus case yesterday, Wednesday 18 March 2020, after the first case was recorded the previous Friday evening. The Ministry of Health said that both infected people were foreign nationals.
