We have received an important notification from the competent authorities that serious steps will be taken to provide redress to two colleagues arbitrarily dismissed from the Mauritanian News Agency: veteran Mamoun Ould El Mokhtar and colleague and cartoonist Boun Ould Def, to restore their rights and end the injustice they face.
The Journalists’ Union has continued to follow this issue and raise it on every occasion and at official meetings. It was among the points in the petition the Union Bureau submitted to the President of the Republic at their last meeting, which received a positive response and remains under follow-up. The President was also reminded of the dismissed colleagues’ situation during the gathering of different generations of journalists at the end of the week, through a request submitted by colleague Sidi Ahmed Ould Bab.
Following this notification, the Union is pleased to express its highest consideration and appreciation to the President of the Republic for honouring his commitment to examine the matter. We also congratulate all colleagues on this occasion.
