“The distinguished journalist Salka Bent Asneid, a founding member of the Journalists’ Union, has departed this transient world after a long struggle with illness. She was one of Mauritania’s most prominent women in media and an important activist and cultural figure, known for her noble patriotic positions. She worked at national radio over past decades, presented numerous political and cultural programmes, and was known for her professional distinction and extensive cultural knowledge.
On this painful occasion, the Mauritanian Journalists’ Union offers its sincere condolences to the deceased’s family, to the great poet and activist Ahmedou Ould Abdelkader, and to all her colleagues and companions in the national struggle, asking Almighty Allah to grant her mercy and forgiveness.
