As part of the continuing implementation of the Journalists’ Union reform programme undertaken by the elected Executive Bureau, various activities will begin in Nouadhibou at the end of this week under a Union delegation’s supervision, including overseeing the establishment of a regional branch. In the coming April and May, Mauritania will, with Allah’s permission, host two international seminars in partnership with the Union: the first in the middle of next month with the foremost Arab research and media institution, and the second in May for World Journalists’ Day. Mauritania was chosen to host the latter through the Union after responsibility for organising the international seminar was settled in our favour, although Tunisia had also been a candidate. Experts, organisations and media institutions from international, Arab, European and Asian backgrounds will participate. A series of domestic and overseas courses has also been scheduled and begun, including an Al Jazeera Media Institute course that will conclude the day after tomorrow, Thursday, at ten o’clock with a certificate ceremony. The full month of training was supervised by international media expert Mohameden Baba Echvagha and professional photographer El Hadi Ould Mohamedou, benefiting around thirty women and men working as journalists.
.The Union’s reform project continues. We have closed the file on the aftermath of the elections, and since the ballot boxes settled the outcome, our focus has been on implementing the programme we promised our colleagues. The door is open to anyone wishing to participate in or benefit from it, whether they were with us or against us in the last elections, whose file is closed until the next congress. Finally, we have no time to waste except on what benefits our women and men colleagues.
