Mauritanian Journalists’ Union rejects Trump’s decision on Jerusalem

The Mauritanian Journalists’ Union reaffirmed its rejection of US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

During a solidarity gathering for Jerusalem held yesterday evening, Sunday, in Nouakchott, the Union called on all journalists to expose conspiracies against the nation’s foremost cause, protect Islamic holy sites, and cleanse Al-Aqsa Mosque and free it from Israeli occupation.

In a Union statement, Vice-President Moulay Ould Abheida said professional standards required standing with what is right and true and exposing unjust and unfair decisions.

The Mauritanian union representative warned of the danger of the US President’s move, which he considered a prelude to testing the Arab and Islamic conscience and its ability to withstand and confront challenges after the destruction of many countries. He called on everyone to rise against the plan.

The journalists attending the gathering also rejected the US President’s decision, describing it as “a gift from someone who does not own it to someone who does not deserve it”.
